3D printed Control Light Housing
« on: October 21, 2025, 01:23:26 PM »
Thought I would share this incase anyone is interested...

Someone requested a printable file for the control light housing on these bikes on a FB group. Not sure why, think I just wanted a challenge at the time so I dug out mine, 3d scanned it and used it to model the part. I thickened the screw tabs which is the common place where these parts break. I uploaded the part on 3d cults, I know these can also be purchased as a repo part..

https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/tool/honda-cb550f-guage-cluster-cover

I printed this in PLA as a test print and then later had it printed in SLS nylon, the nylon part is alot stronger, flexible and should with stand the elements compared to PLA. it can also be dyed or painted..

Has got me thinking about modelling some other parts for these bikes. I started on the side covers for the 550F but haven't had the time to complete them yet..maybe some airbox parts or lids, tool trays etc..

If anyone wants the file send me a message and ill try get it to you...

cheers for reading

Nice!
And that same part is used on many other models as well.

Looks great!

As far as 550F parts, Franken stuff makes excellent side covers [I have a set on my 550F] but seems guys are always trying to find airbox parts.

Not 3D printed:

Yes I've seen those, looks like he may have created a mold/plug of the original parts and cast them? I was thinking of buying a pair as one of mine is cracked and looking for a new pair when it comes time to paint. I was keen to maybe make a mold and make some from carbon fibre but I have enough on my plate at the moment..

Yes airbox parts.....I do plan to model what's on my bike when it comes apart again and see what I can come up with. With the rise of 3D printers I think it would be useful for people to reproduce themselves easily.

I dont recall the process but def not 3D printed.

BTW - 3D printing the sidecovers has been discussed here before but dont know if he ever did it?
