76' 550 leak, from wear????
« on: October 04, 2024, 01:24:20 PM »

Had weeping I figured was from head gasket being the little O'rings around the oil passages are a solid bet to leak after the engine sits.
Pull head and sealed all up with additional blk gasket sealer on t fry byhe valve cover with the O'ring gasket. All are new gaskets.
Well, I still have a leak from somewhere that shows up on lg side after a ride.
Just not sure from where. DON'T want to pull the head again.
Alternatives?    All O'rings & gaskets are new.

Did you change the rubber pucks between cam cover and head plus the alloy sealing washers between the steel brackets for end caps and cam cover, either of those can leak

If you clean the motor up well, you can “dust it” with talcom powder then ride the bike. The source of the weep will promptly show up.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S.
