1974 CB550F fork ears
« on: May 21, 2015, 06:32:21 PM »
At the beginning of my "build a 550F super sport from parts" project I remember seeing the correct fork ears for my '74 model on ebay (the ones where the reflectors screw into the headlight mounting bolts and the blinker stalks (big lollypop style blinkers) screw in down the bottom level with the lower triple tree clamps just above where the fork gaitors attach), however they sold before I could get them. Since then (nearly three years ago) I have not once seen these fork ears on ebay :(
Is this a used for one year model only part like my twin pipe screw on fuel tap is?
Has any one seen these fork ears come up in their ebay searches elsewhere in the world? (I am in Australia)
Thanks in advance for your help, John :)

BTW - '75 was the first year of the 550F in the US, you sure you have a '74?

Hey stevo, yes, I can't find any evidence anywhere that there is any such thing as a 1974 CB550F supersport, but the frame I bought off ebay had a compliance plate dating it as manufactured in 1974! The Californian number plate that came with it had a rego tag which expired in june '95.
Any way I think the '75 ss fork ears would be as correct as I can get - though possibly it originally had the smaller blinkers - I've already decided to stick with the bigger lollipop blinkers as the grab rail I got for it is for the bigger blinkers. Looks like I've gone and picked the rarest type of fork ears!
Edit: maybe a 12/'74 manufactured is classed as a 1975- I didn't originally notice that it was december 74!

Agreed - you have a '75 there.  Good luck finding your ears.
