Vetter Quicksilver fairing:dim 7x5" headlight problem
« on: October 11, 2024, 11:13:28 PM »
I want to keep the same size headlight which this fairing came with from Vetter:a 7x5" rectangular bulb. A problem is it came with an automotive-style lense which doesn't direct the beam of light in the right place on the road in front of me.
Do any of you run a Quicksilver ?
How have you fixed your headlight,to make it much brighter ?
Does/did anyone manufacture a 7x5" H4 headlight with the lense meant for a Motorcycle ?
The automotive 7x5" installed now leaves it too dark on the road at night:dangerous.

I signed-up to the Vetter Owners group forum 2 months ago and started a thread with this question, but so far only Alan(member here)has answered me & he doesn't run a Quicksilver, afaik.

The 83 CB1100F has a rectangular H4 headlight and I'm thinking it is 5x7 but cannot confirm the size.

I see that Stu,it may be possible to use that one, even though it's a bit taller than 5". thanks,Bill

Edit: can someone with a CB1100F? How about VF1100,750 or VF500 Magna w/ a square headlight in good condition measure their glass headlight bulb dimensions please ?

Dim output I would suspect that it is wired incorrectly. 4x6 square lamps require an adapter to switch terminals to run H4 lamps, could the 7x5 have same issue?

I have the stock OEM adapter and it operates both beams well.

These Stanley lights are H4 motorcycle specific lenses that put a balanced pattern out on both sides. They work just fine with a quality H4 bulb.

I put the exact same Stanley lense in the 80' GS 1100E because it had a automobile sealed beam in it. Paul got it for us on FleaBay.

What is the voltage getting to the headlight socket? I'm wondering what 5x7 bulbs fit the same housings? Are they standard fitment like round bulbs? There are a boatload of 5X7 LED lamps for motorcycles but obviously they look different. I saw one in a gs11 but didn't love the look, the light might make me a believer though.

This one turns up a bunch of H4 Stanley motorcycle bulbs, a lot of them for Suzuki. I also found a nice thermos, a hacksaw, a set of travel shot glasses in a pack, a canteen and some sweet brass cabinet hinges.

I also posted on another forum and member here and on VHT 'Alan F.' found me an NOS #001-1843 from a seller on Ebay !  I'm stoked.  8)
The only things missing off the new bulb are the special round bulb holder part# 33114-MC5-003 and the rubber protective boot;I'll need to figure out those.

This lamp has some extra brackets as part of the back of the reflector I would need to Dremel off.. to allow it to fit;the seller never gave a part# for it and I've been searching Ebay and looking at those other bulbs and the back of them are all smooth w/o the extra brackets attached.  ::)
I messaged the seller of the NOS one w/ the extra brackets;Josh understands the extra brackets will not work for my application and it's a no sale.

I see, that's too bad for me.
Do you know the model Honda(or part#)that it came from ?
I ask because I want to narrow my search for the correct(smooth)headlight lamp;the NOS one I can buy for $30 will require me to Dremel-off 3 brackets from the back and that may damage it.

Re: Vetter Quicksilver fairing:dim 7x5" headlight problem

What is the voltage getting to the headlight socket? I'm wondering what 5x7 bulbs fit the same housings? Are they standard fitment like round bulbs? There are a boatload of 5X7 LED lamps for motorcycles but obviously they look different. I saw one in a gs11 but didn't love the look, the light might make me a believer though.

The OEM switch is working good, haven't checked the voltage yet;the automotive style lense on this automotive 7x5" bulb is just not correct for a motorcycle and I need to correct that before looking any further. The pattern of the beam is what's wrong on mine.
The lense needs to say MOTORCYCLE molded into the lense for it to effectively point the beam down the road good.

I saw seven that all say MOTORCYCLE on the bottom of the lens. I know the difference.

I just looked at the search using 001-1843 and see them;the one in Hayward,Ca. looks best.

Yeah,NOS and it's the one I chose;seller lowered it to $50+
I Need to SEE and be SEEN on the road in all conditions  ;)
