Totally unscientific poll, best sounding SOHC4 stock or not.
« on: October 15, 2024, 02:04:32 PM »
Personal opinions only, no incorrect answers.

My former first place best sound was my Sandcast with the 4-2 hooker header. It has Yamiya 4-4's on it now and really sings. The Hooker 4-2 is on an 836 now and it doesn't sound anything like it did before.
A good second was a cb400F with a stock header and a Supertrapp muffler.

Worst sound is a K0 stocker with 341 CMSNL 4-4 repro's rattling with the baffles in place. Baffles out it's not so bad.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Not sure you had them on your side of the pond but a 500 with a piper 4 into 1 system sounded like a banshee having a prostate exam, my wife could hear me coming home from 2 miles down the valley we lived in at the time. Also liked the same bike with a Yoshi on it.

my first 750 had 4 into 2 crossover chopper pipes that ended somewhere under the gearbox, there was nothing inside the 'mufflers' , it was brutally loud and at night the flames out of them was brighter than my (maltese cross) tail light. loved it but it was really hard to ride too far

if you guys would run something on the quiet side you might realize that intake noise is far more interesting, especialially when you hit 6000-7500rpm in fifth and the airbox goes all resonant and you feel the throttle get real responsive...

We had a 500 four with an action fours crossover shorty 4-2 that was pretty sweet too.
I did put Harley mufflers on a gl1000 once, it sounded just like a tractor idling thank goodness it got better at riding speeds.

Totally unscientific, but seems the best sounding SOHC that I have is the "Park Racer" with the Moto GP Werks exhaust. Sounds wicked when run out to 7K RPM...

And according to my butt dyno, it added 15% hp!!!  Ha
