Anybody Ever MAKE a Carb Rack?
« on: October 17, 2024, 01:48:55 PM »
I'm in search of the elusive inline four carbs for a 1972 CB350 Four, and not having much luck - but I remembered something that I thought I would present to the forum here for a feasibility study of sorts...since these carbs are so hard to come by, and there's lots of aftermarket single carbs on Ebay and Amazon allegedly for the CB350 and 360 for $60 a pair - has anybody ever MADE a 4-carb rack for their 350 or 400 with these carbs??  Coudl you even do it...? I suppose you could, I just don't know what you'd need or how to go about it...has this ever been done?

I'm told the 400's use the same carb but I'm sure that's no help. If you could find them with individual cable pulls you might be able to use a 4-1 750 K0 throttle cable but four 350 twin carbs might still be too big.
A small 4 expert will be along shortly. L0L!  I'm thinking there might be aftermarket carbs that could work.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

The 350 twin and 360 twins carbs are totally different than 350f carbs. And they are probably too wide to fit 4 of them in the same space. But maybe not if you are making an intake as well.

That said the 360 carbs are already on a rack. So if you figured out how to fit them, you could just install 2x 360 carb racks. I would rather just shell out for a set of 350f or 400f carbs though. You should be able to find a set eventually for around $200-300.

Yes, I have a Want ad up in the 'Wanted' section ("Seeking '72 350 Four Parts') and I'll take either a 350 or 400 carb set if the price is right, but I got to wondering if I could build one...be awesome if you could...

Need a digitized “blueprint” (I’m old) for a cnc machine to whittle out of billet material. Not sure any of the plastics would work.

I've got three sitting in a box in the shed. Here in Australia. Postage is dodgy coming here, not sure what it's like going to US.

Keep an eye out on ebay 350/400 carb sets show up every once in a while that aren't to unreasonably priced. Bigger issue is finding a set with the good oem brass, but then again jetrus will or should have the correct mains and pilots if yours don't.
Start with the end in mind...

I looked at some of the Mikeoonie (ripoff Mikuni LOL)stuff thinking along the same lines but the dimensions and plethora of knobs and other things did not lend themselves to racking them up for a CB750 into the original spacing. If the people who make that stuff and sell it for $20 on amazon ever identified a market for a rack of 4 carbs they would sell some for sure.

I started trying to build a custom rack for a set of carbs.  The machining of the cross-shafts (throttle & choke) proved to be beyond my capabilities.

I started trying to build a custom rack for a set of carbs.  The machining of the cross-shafts (throttle & choke) proved to be beyond my capabilities.

I have four TB for a CBR model not sold in the USA, made a rack to mount them on and started into cover plates for the complex surface where the TPS mounts. But as you say tying all 4 existing shafts together in a way that allows adjustment, or making new ones is a hurdle, the tolerances required are tight and the shaft seals may not be readily avail. The existing TPS sensor in my case it pretty big so cannot be used on all 4 carbs, we only need one anyway, and it also includes an intake air temperature sensor. using 4:1 throttle cables is perhaps possible..the 69 and 70 CB750 did from factory.

did murray ever make a 2 carb into 4 for the 350F? I was thinking that route when going through my 3 carb sets that I put together to make 1 good set. a 500/550 carb set on the 350F sounds cool. I saw a guy make his own intake for his bike motor with a 3d printer and then sand casting it. doesnt look too hard. Ive been thinking about making a set of just some intakes like the 500/550 for the 350F. where it will be a separate part form the intake rubbers.

I have a set for a CB350F in pretty good shape, also the whole bike apart, if you need anything else, I will have to take some pics, I am in Georgia,
