F2/F3 gas tanks compared to F0/F1 tanks Petcock locations
« on: October 20, 2024, 02:06:25 AM »
I have a 76 F1 that needs a tank. Just wondering if there's a difference between the later tank petcock bung location.
I know that the petcocks are different on the 75/76 than the 77/78 F Supersport tanks,  are the petcock bungs on the tanks in the same location? There's a 78 F3 tank available @ 3 hrs away and I'd rather know before heading over to get it.
I'm wondering this, as the K model tanks have different location front of the tank mounts to the petcock bung which effects the choke lever operation putting early carbs on a K8.

It will work, I have an F2 tank on an F0 right now.  Hardest part is the F2 petcock only has one outlet, so you will have to add a tee to feed the F0 carbs...or figure out a different petcock.
If it works good, it looks good...

My 76F1 completely stock except for yoshi and h4 headlight has a single feed petcock…?
I was thinking all F’s use singles and the dual hose petcock was an older k thing..?

Thanks guys. I also think that the F0/1 has a single outlet.
I ended up riding up to get it.

Well the petcocks have different outlet direction, F2/3 point out horizontally, the F0/1 outlet points down.
There might be a difference in the length from the front rubber to the rear rubber bungi holder, I'll have to look closer in the light and do some measurements between my F1 and F2 frames. It was dark in the garage when I tried it tonight.

I have an F2 tank. Honestly my biggest grievance is that 1) the threading is larger than other tanks so finding a good petcock was annoying 2) the location means you have to go out at 90° which further reduces the number of petcocks you can use and getting the fuel hose on in that location requires slender hands. I ended up using a 90° petcock that was too small for the tank threads and then using a reducer nut and o-rings

Yes unfortunately the F2/F3 petcocks are NLA. I had to pull the petcock off this tank last night as the seal to the tank bung was leaking badly as I started putting in the Evaporust, I dug out the wasted sealing washer and found an oring that sealed it. I'll see in a few when I get back in the shop if it held overnight  ???

The oring held overnight and for the next week as I left the Evaporust in the tank, drained it out and the inside looks like new. I'll get some pictures later this afternoon of the inside results. For now I need to get to 😴

After a week of Evaporust (actually 2 years old batch that has cleaned probably more than a dozen, some extreme rusted before electrolysis cleaning followed up with Evaporust).

Haha, we ended up doing similar things. I used electrolysis last year but didn’t quite get all of it. This year I used vinegar and agitators, and then a 20% rust converter solution (gallon of rust converter in the tank, fill up with warm water). After 48 hours my tank was 100% rust free and after rinsing with diesel and filling with gas it’s 100% rust free two weeks later. Feels awesome after dealing with rust dust in the bowls and a clogged reserve circuit.
