My Tachometer problem fixed
« on: October 28, 2024, 09:23:13 AM »
Just want to share my experience with my Tachometer
Had problems with it not working like it should , very slow return etc.

Browsed this forum and found alot of good tips and tricks.
followed and it got rid of some of my problems.

What i found out tho was that there was some contact going on, and it got worse when i turned the tach upside down.
I am quite sure that the main reason for this problem is me pulling very hard on the needle when i was taking it appart.
But the symptoms and problems was the same as i had when i started.
So i found the source of the problem and took this "shield looking thing" off and put the tach back on the bike.
Well it was not the result i wanted.. It did return faster but show far less rpm than the engine was doing.
Took it off again and decided to experiment. Well why not have some fun with this.
Of course i realized the moment i saw the tach was showing far to low rpm. that the "shield looking thing" was there to enhance the induced current in the sec. rotor.
That was kind of a nobrainer but late night, 1/2 bottle wine and a good part frustration. removing it sounded like a good plan.

here i my findings:

without "shield looking thing" :

600 cable rpm =  2.000 displayed

with "shield looking thing":

220 cable rpm =  2.000 displayed

So yes it was there for a reason

Oh and did some sanding on the "shield looking thing" where the rubbing had taken place.
Now my Tacho works like a Charm! Checked with my Laser Tach. was only about 100-200 Rpm off .

Pictures of the rubbing and the "shield looking thing" (please someone tell me what it is called) added

Hope this will help some with tachometer problems.
