CB550 steering stem measurement
« on: November 06, 2024, 05:03:34 PM »
Good evening folks,
I was wondering if anyone out there could possibly give me the measurement from the base of the steering stem to the top of the lower threads on a CB550 steering stem? Preferably pre-‘77. See the picture attached.

If that’s a 550 stem, it’s the same length as the ‘77 750 stem. It’s too long to fit in the CB 350 steering head. I thought the 550 was shorter. This is a picture of the 750 stem, same as your picture.

The 550 stem is on the left, and a 750 stem is on the right.

Aha, now I can see it, a little tricky in the dark. Thanks.

Here’s your photo of 750/550 and my photo of 750/350 stems. The top of the lower thread on the 350 and 550 stems are at similar dimensions. This is where the steering head top thread applies force to the bearings to tighten the steering action. The space above and the upper thread dimension are specific to the top yoke for each model. It appears to me as though the 550 triple will fit the 350 steering head without too much fuss.

Scottly, in another thread you mentioned that the 550 has the same offset as the 750 K7 yoke. If that’s the case then the 550 triples will do the job nicely, I would think.
