buell(er)? buell(er)?
« on: March 21, 2007, 05:13:01 AM »
hey guys anyone out there have knowledge of buells?
particularly how to lower it an inch or two?  both forks and shock?

I have a friend that is selling an '03 firebolt.  he has given me an awesome price for this thing.  the bike is an awesome ride.  the only problem is the seat height because I have short legs and at lights and stop signs I am on the   balls of my feet. to all that is not short this is uncomfortable in more ways than one.  any suggestions or forums or websites to help me with this bike prob?   I want this bike but only if it can be lowered safely.

thanks

do a search for lowering links for the rear.
there's to ways to lower the front... smaller springs and drop the triple clamps.  dropping the clamps is obviously the easiest but, it will affect handling more.
my suggestion on forums that could help... THIS ONE!    ;)

also, any good machinist should be able to knock out a few lowering links pretty easily.  you might look for one in your area and go visit them.  usually lowering links are just a bar of metal w/ a few holes for adjustment.

ya I am just trying to find someone that has done it on this bike and get some feed back on handling and how far of a drop can be made etc.
I am waiting on some info and pics from someone on another site.
thanks again for your info.   as always this is the best site to ask bike questions.

On some versions of the Buells they have a lower seat that snaps in instead of the stock unit. (The Blast has this, don't know about the Firebolt.)

thanks I looked up some info and found that, I believe,  that I can lower the xbr9 upto 1.5 inches with seat changes.

I still need to do more research.  I will check if a blast is interchangeable.

to all,

I went and rode the buell yesterday and I was on the top of my toes! Actually my boots.  A little bit uncomfortable for me.  although I really want the bike and I will be picking it up today!  It should be about 75F to 80f degrees  with a slight chance of spotty showers so I might go thru a couple of tanks of gas before I put it up for the night.  well if it had a gas tank.
so thanks for all the info.  I have read a lot of stuff so I am confident that I can lower the bike properly.  thanks again guys.
oh ya and heffay enjoy your spring break but try not to kill to many brain cells!   ;D :D
