Suzuki Help. Can't decide to buy or Not??
« on: March 25, 2007, 05:00:50 PM »
I recently was offered a 1985 Suzuki GS700ES with 19k on the clock.

It has the following:

Vance and Hines full exhaust system, K&N, rejetted, New tires with 50miles on them, New plugs and oil change.

The motor was repainted and doesn't look bad at all. Frame was touched up but seems to have been done right, No rust coming through.

It seems, he may have done a quick repaint of the front headers. Cause when he started it up, some white smoke was coming off the headers for about 10 seconds.

The chain and maybe the front sprocket need to be replaced. Signs of the bike being down but not high speed.

Scuff on the front fairing, gauge housing, rear cowl, sidecover, split on the seat, and the wind shield was replaced with a lockhart.

Overall, she looks good with the original paint job.

She runs good and smooth with no mechanical noises, even from the cam chain. Starts up good from a cold start.

Is it worth $1200???  Is there some other stuff I should be checking for like popping out of gear on 2nd???

Any help is appreciated.

not a lot to go wrong with it. The only thing I would check is the battery is charging and the wiring hasn't been messed with.
Its a downrated 750 so doesn't have the power it was originally designed for.
I like all the twin cam two valve per cylinder GS inline 4 range, worked on them for years.
Only ever did one second gear, and that was on GS850G, shaft drive that someone was trying to wheelie.
