Here's my other bike , an 82 CX500 Silverwing . This thing runs perfect and is real clean . I rode it this season as I sorted out my Cb .

I have a 78 CX500 I currently have torn down in a stalled refresh/restore. It isn’t quick but it is dependable and it works to check the box on 2-wheeled therapy.  I won’t kick it out of my “garage”…
The Ti motors are less problematic.

Your S'wing looks just like the one my father-in-law bought after he sold the CB450 I gave him (he rode it for years) when his wife wouldn't fit on the back of the DOHC bike anymore. He loved it: after she added another 50 lbs. he traded it for a G'wing, which he rode maybe 1/8 as much. He liked that smaller bike a lot more.

Has anyone seen any of the turbo'd CX650 bikes lately? They were the first ones with the 'fake' throttle cable on them. It turned a potentiometer in the handlebar switch assembly that controlled the EFI, and the end of the fake cable went under the fuel tank to a small sprung hydraulic damper cylinder so it 'felt' like a throttle. Pretty wild, but it seems the bike was short-lived?
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Interesting about the turbo 650 having a throttle by wire. I didn't know about it to look for it and didn't notice it when one came to our bike night last summer.

The CX line simply didn't sell well in the US. The UK lived the bike as messengers and couriers and similar loved the low maintenance bullet proof design. The CX & Silver wings have a few weaknesses, but there are easy methods and solutions today. Not exciting but fun transportation. There are few guys that will do engine builds increasing displacement and porting and cam work but the solutions are closely guarded and most enjoy the bike for what it is. The 650 motor is a nice upgrade to any of the CX500 bikes, the Silver Wing with 650 was a 1 year bike in the US. The Euro version is a nice variat if you can get your hands on one...

Was the Euro 650 also turbo'd with EFI like the US version?

???Euro Sport CX500-E and CX650-E was a sport bike and Canada got it, it was Not turbo'd. It is best looking CX I think. It has the body work from the turbo but not the larger fairing from the turbo.

It was before it's time and the 650 was the ultimate version and like any bike if evolved design later versions usually become better. The 650 had the power the bike needed. The 500 is underpowered for bikes if it's day and the American market just rejected it. It lived longer abroad, but not that much longer.

I owned an 82' GL500(same as the CX)but always wanted to take a ride on the 650.
