Steering Bearing Nut
« on: March 21, 2007, 06:57:32 AM »
I have a slight shake on my 78 750 Subersport at around 40 mph Mike Nixion has a post Shucking The Shakes where he  describes a procedure to help eliminate this I am looking for a steering nut socket Honda #07916-3710100. Does anyone Know of a substitution for this Honda tool? I believe it is called a castelated nut . Do they sell this type of socket in sets?

Thanks in advance

Nope, a thin "C" spanner will do it
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Not sure which "nut" you're referring to.  The chrome cap nut can be tightened with a socket or wrench that fits!  The bearing nut of course can't.  For tightening/loosening, I have successfully used a cheap rear-shock preload adjustment wrench that comes with any old motorcycle, or can be easily purchased.
Good luck.
