CB500K Base Coat or No...?
« on: November 17, 2024, 08:22:47 AM »
I've got my 500/4 engine cases masked off and ready to paint, and while I've done a lot of digging here and elsewhere, I can't find a definitive answer to the engine base coat question: should I or shouldn't I? I know it's ultimately up to me, but I'm wondering which would give a better end result. I wonder if the basecoat won't make it too 'thick' - I'm using the Aluminum Duplicolor engine enamel DE1615, but wondering about the primer and rock chips down the road...anybody got a preference?

(Later...) Meh; I went with the primer. All the 'pros' I read outweighed the 'cons'.

I etch primed the crankcase, but didn't prime the barrels and head, as I was concerned it might reduce cooling. Both are standing up to use fine, so far (9 months, 1500 miles).
