Wolfe those are looking great.

If you did do a hidden stud in the cap to screw on a dipstick what would be the chance of the dipstick unthreading and falling off?

yeah like that newday the thin metal cap formed onto the dipstick tightly unlike these caps im working on. I would have to find something to keep it attached to the dipstick so throwing some ideas out there maybe a bolt that the cap would screw on would be nice.

You could then use a small ny-lock nut to hold the dipstick tight;wouldn't back off.

Pretty much got the dash how I want it. Not sure if it's going to be legal as I may have to have an odometer for roadworthy.
Bit more cleanup of edges and I'm thinking wrinkle finish black paint

Those stick up a lot. Those might burn a leg on hot summer days.

Today I fired up my K5 to take it out and warm it up to drop the oil for it's winter's nap. 42° this afternoon's high so I had to bundle up for a 15 mile ride at 50 mph, so the wind chill was @11°. I had to stop and pull up my neck wrap at the turn around as my mouth and nose were very cold. Winter is settling in here, only going to be in the 30s next week.......

hey gurp didnt see your post. I think if you did a bolt with threadlock it should be good. I still like the magnets but will have to give it a go.

Or better yet threads on a bolt and has a hole in it for a cotter key. I know that heat is how you remove or disable lock type but I'm not sure where that property based on heat begins. It requires a little bit of research.

on the inside of the cap that attaches the dipstick theres all the components that screw on snug to the oil can. I bet you could tap that area and do a die bolt that connects to the cap or just keep enough material to lathe it on. that is why I miss frank. I could ask him to make me some of his starter delete plugs but bigger for this problem.

That is a heck'n good idea have the whole thing machined out of one piece and then file your design on top or figure out how hard it would be to achieve adhesion between the cast piece and the machined depart.

that was kind of what that bump on the inside was going to be for but I think it would be good to try something with 3d print as to make it the right specs.

worked on this one but Im finding out the thickness is too thin on the wall so I am going to beef it up some. also looking at the thickness of the top I can probably file it down another 1/8 " more to make the cap less top heavy.

I set up my shop chair next to the lift and spent a few hours sorting out a cake pan full of used Honda hardware. As always, I found a few unknown parts and a few things that I know I'll use. Headlight hardware, turn signal grommets, bowl drain screws, a float pivot pin, fiber washers, etc. It's always a pain but worth it.
When I bought out a collection of Honda stuff from a friend I ended up with a full tote of things to sort. It took several nights but I found 3 of the ignition switch tabbed washers that were worth the time spent by themselves. Lots of usable stuff but most of it was junk.

Those tabbed washers for the ignition switch are almost always MIA! Still missing one for the S/C!.
