Topic: K1 750 Quick Horn Question

I disassembled my K1 750's horn, separating the intermediate bracket and tach cable hoop from the horn, for cleaning up.

I'd just like to be sure it all went back together and was installed correctly.  Seems weird to me that Honda would mount the horn with the wires coming out the front of the assembly facing "the elements".



Does this look right?

Hmmmm!  I don't remember having or removing a chrome horn cover and this is a one owner (me) bike.

I do appreciate your reply!  Can you tell me how the chrome cover is fastened to the horn?
Snaps on?  One or more of the small circumferential screws?  Bracket bolts?

If your horn is an aftermarket replacement then the chrome cover probably won't fit.

It looks like the cover just snaps on around the circumference of the horn.  Correct?

As for orientation...
Does the open "horn" of the horn, NOT point straight down when mounted?

 It should point down. The horn bolts on through the bracket as shown, I see your wires exit on the bottom, when the cover is on, they exit about 2 o'clock.

Yes, it just snaps on.
That horn and bracket were used on several different models. If it's not originally from a 750 the horn/bracket orientation may be off and need to be changed so the horn points down as was mentioned.

I'm fairly certain the horn is original to the bike as I'm the original owner.  And it's kinda hard to tell from my photo but my horn is indeed pointing straight down.

I just found the horn in my parts book and it doesn't look like the chrome cover was available separately.
Were the covers prone to falling off?

 It appears your horn is oriented properly and I think the wires wind around inside the cover. The horn outlet is black and hard to see in the pic but it's there, you're just missing the cover.
  I checked my parts but don't have a complete horn that's worth the trip, I was going to offer to bring one to the airport here in G-burg. I probably do have a good cover though.

Not really, but it can be difficult to find one that still has good chrome. Most of the used ones these days have at least some pitting.

I guess I need to keep an eye out for a new horn cover or perhaps worse, a new horn.

New horns are available and they come with an integral cover. The only time I got one off, I destroyed it in the attempt……  not cheap, check EBay.

Is that horn maybe from a later model that didn't have the chrome?
