That is a bummer.  I remember watching On Any Sunday the first time.  The hillclimb portion near the end had Malcolm trying the Widowmaker on a stock bike.  I remember how smooth he looked, like he was on a trail ride.  His ride is at about 1:10:35.

Greg, to be fair that "stock bike" was a two-stroke Husky enduro that was at the top of the class back then. ;)

The point being it wasn’t a purpose built hill climb bike

 My mom dropped me and my best friend off at the local theater back in 1971. Watching Malcolm, Steve Mcqueen, and Mert Lawwill. My favorite movie of all time. Thank's Malcolm for the memories.
