Yeah, the "ingredients" of that stuff here reads identically to the label of my can: they are right next to each other on the shelf at the local Ace. There's a third one (and then Ace's own), but all 3 have the same ingredients, even the Aircraft Stripper that just showed up. My old can included MEK, none of these do. On the list of ingredients it was replaced with detergents.

I tried some of that, too, but the only stuff I have on hand is the modern DOT3 synthetic type, and I only have a couple ounces of the old J1703 left, which I'm hoarding for my own 750. I poured the DOT3 type onto the top of the tank twice at bedtime, but it had no effect by the next days. I don't think this new brake fluid does what the old stuff did to paint? I know many shops managed to damage many tanks back in the day, including one of the ones where I worked!

Always the over hyped stories presented as a "proof" of millions dying. I dealt with paint strippers for decades. I didn't need instructions, I read 'em, but my nose and skin told me everything I needed to know. And if there was a skull/x on the label, I paid double attention. There was absolutely no way to continually breath in those vapors, one whiff and I was retreating to a safe area , even if outside.
Sorry for the losses, but if you rock a vending machine back and forth to get that stuck item, that machine can kill you.

Common sense goes a long way..

My 1st experience with anhydrous ammonia brought back memories testifying to your statement “there was no way to continually breathe in those vapors”.  Having tripped on the trip rope “yeh I’m that old” while stepping over the drawbar adjusting the rate valve..

I very quickly realized the labels warnings and the 20gal tank of fresh water weren’t exaggerations..I still remember quickly crawling through knee high corn till I could open my eyes and breathe.  Killed about a 50’x50’ area around the applicator before I got up wind and got it shut off..

Pretty much read the labels ever since I was 15 years old after that…

 Napa sells permatex stripper that reportedly works. I'm not sure where it's available but might be one to look for.

Napa can order it in for you if the store near you doesn't normally stock it...

When I go by the NAPA I may drop in and ask about it. There used to be about 50 body shops around here: I went looking around to see where they might get their stuff, and all of them are closed! I only see some of the chain-store body shops now, and they won't talk with you unless you have a wreck and a wallet full of insurance cards. That section of town looks like a ghost town.

 We had a couple custom paint and body shops around here. Same deal, they are collision only these days. A friend's shop repaired the broken plastic bedside on my 2003 GMC dually since they don't make them anymore. He whined a lot and said he wouldn't do another one, he tied up his best guy for two whole days. Waaah.
 I searched for a used one for six months, they are nearly all broken also. I almost put a Western Hauler aluminum bed on it.

Friend had minor accidents in wife's a Honda CR-V and the airbags did Not deploy but they totalled the car because of paint matching would have required them to respray much of the vehicle. Seems lots of vehicles are getting totalled by insurance companies in minor accidents. It doesn't pass the sniff test to me, I think something else is happening behind the scenes...
Very repairable cars getting totalled just doesn't make sense...
I know repair parts are now outrageous in price and that's a factor.

Paint matching is no problem for a shop with a scanner that gives the mix to do.
I have visited a company that made the plastic parts on cars, spoliers etc.

Most of the plastic parts painted in the same color as the car to be built by the car manufacturer. They showed the scanner they used to get perfect color match as they got.
First time I visited that place was early  1996.

I bought paint for my kitchen last summer. I needed same paint color as I had used on the walls years ago. That shop's paint department have a scanner and found out how to do the mix within a few sec. I brought with me a small piece of the old paint.

um. so do I. My son's wife inherited an '03 (I think) dodge grand caravan. It was loaded, every option, mint, low miles, about 12 years ago. Wife ran into the rear of a Jeep suv. It was minor for the jeep, no airbags either.  Missed the bumper, grill, but got the top of the latch, radiator support , bent the condenser and radiator, buckled the hood, smashed in the right fender and headlight/shell/mount which put a slight buckle in the "crumple" zone in the upper unibody support.
But it drove straight still, no pulling, no alignment issue at all.
Dodge dealer said it was totaled. I fixed it, long story short, ( didn't do the painting) for around $1200 ?
I think the dealer saw a great deal in that they could turn that van themselves and make a lot of money....a lot...
