ah yes when america entered a war that had started two years earlier
hmm...is that kind of a....dig?
well, no one denies the tenacity and resilience of England back then, nor the leadership of Churchill.
But England was finished, it's air defense was exhausted. Why Germany chose to stop it's air attacks is left to historians to debate, but nevertheless, England did not have the aircraft to mount a defense after its last major effort.
America had a strong isolationist contingent and ,considering everything, had justification.....After all, we are the U.S. with multiple voices that are allowed to be heard.
But the fact remained when Germany started it's "run", the American military was woefully undermanned and ill equipped materially to fight any major war, much less one that didn't "concern" us.....hindsight being 20/20...
Sometimes it takes a right to the jaw to wake someone up.
I thought we responded quite well to that.......my opinion.
Anyway, it is a date to remember.
