Add to that: 9/11 and 10/07. All horrific events in modern human history.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Hard to believe it's been 83 years. My uncle was stationed at Pearl during the attack and was on the
USS Helena. The ship was bombed during the attack and unfortunately some young sailors lost their life.

hmm...is that kind of a....dig?
well, no one denies the tenacity and resilience of  England back then, nor the leadership of Churchill.
But England was finished, it's air defense was exhausted. Why  Germany chose to stop it's air attacks is left to historians to debate, but nevertheless, England did not have the aircraft to mount a defense after its last major effort.
America had a strong isolationist contingent and ,considering everything, had justification.....After all, we are the U.S. with multiple voices that are allowed to be heard.
But the fact remained when Germany started it's "run", the American military was woefully undermanned and ill equipped materially to fight any major war, much less one that didn't "concern" us.....hindsight being 20/20...
Sometimes it takes a right to the jaw to wake someone up.
I thought we responded quite well to that.......my opinion.

Anyway, it is a date to remember.
