Topic: Shop shoes.

  I've been wearing my relatively expensive ON's and Brooks tennis shoes in the garage and have worn through the top of the toes. I do work off of the floor often, it's good for an old fart to get down and up to keep moving and flexible but is hard on the toes of my shoes.
 Apart from putting on my Red Wings or Wolverines are there any light comfortable shoes that hold up in the garage?

I don't work in the shop while wearing light weight shoes/boots. You never know when something will go south on you. Same thing with riding. My White's Boots have saved my feet more than once. Since I live in the woods I wear my boots every day. To me it's no different than putting on my helmet before going riding.
The only time I don't wear boots is if I'm painting. I wear rubber boots, don't want to get paint on my good boots.

i only wear steel cap boots in the garage, not a huge danger in there but you never know.
i was doing some gardening and clean up years ago, dropped a 18" square slab of concrete on my foot ( not wearing steel caps ) and it squashed the bone in my big toe, the xray was a splintered mess, that was probably 20 years ago and it still occasionally sends a shot of pain out of the toe right through my foot.
another foot one..i was splitting traffic one day when i still had my GS750, got to a gap that i couldn't get thru, put my foot down and the car on my left ran over my foot. didn't hurt that much but my boot split open and flapped about like a mad thing the rest of the ride. new boots were in order but not until i'd gaffer taped the old ones and rode like that for the rest of summer

I'm a tall boots guy myself: I have D-width heels and 5E-wide at the toes (think: duck's feet, perfect match). I only wear [what my wife calls] 'cowboy' boots 100% of the time as nothing else fits: having them on by default has saved foot injury several times in the garage(s)!

I wear White's Boots made in Spokane WA since 1905. You have to measure both of your feet in several places and do a tracing of both feet. I have really skinny ankles and these are the only boots in my entire life that fit correctly. White's Boots have the best arch support and there's no need for any type of insoles. Most of their boots are recraftable, send them back to the factory for a resole and they will repair any issues at that time. It's like getting new boots that are already broken in, they will last a lifetime.
They have a good selection of styles and types of boots for work and daily wear. I've had mine for 4 years and it's almost time to get a resole. The best boots I've ever had. They aren't cheap but it is an investment in your feet.

I find myself just wearing sox in the garage.  Then I get paid back with little slivers poking my feet when my shoes are on.

Boots every day for about the past 16-17 years.  I got to a point where I felt like I needed to be ready to ride at any given moment.  I haven't worn sneakers in over three years and even then, it was only a few times a year.  I used to wear some kind of rubber sole riding boot, but I haven't been able to find anything that I like the last few years, so I've been wearing these Justin rubber soled ranch work boots.  They aren't steel toe, but they've held up incredibly well.  I have some Harley riding boots for, well...riding.  I also have some nice Tecovas boots for when I have to "dress up', which is practically never.
