30 years ago the wife bought this for me from a friend who gave up riding
after his cousin was killed (along with his cousins girlfriend) on the Parkway.
It's a Schott Perfecto for those who remember.

I just had the sleeve zippers replaced seems they were messed up 30 years ago,
before I got it. I'm not sure who Eldon bought it from but I don't think even he
bought it new.

I'm the one guilty of taking the belt off the jacket. I don't miss it.

Thats cool RM. The jacket I wear is almost identical to yours except it doesn't have the epaulets. It was made by H&A Leather in Winnipeg 30 years ago. My brother-in-law gave it to me, he used to ride a Yamaha 650 in the mid-seventies. Hasn't ridden since then, and the jacket would be waay too small for him now

I'm still thinking about getting a pair of those nifty West Virginia riding boots to go with it

it's interesting how these style of jackets seem to usually be inherited... i had one when i first started riding that a friend gave to me... i passed it on to another as well.

I posted this a week or so ago to show how thicker soles are another way to deal with the tall 750F seat height. I hear they are the footgear of choice this spring for hip dudes in WV.

As to our old jackets, I did an ebay search on the Schott 30 year old jackets a while back,
they were going for over $300 bucks with time left. I guess mine has lost value over the years,
back then the wife paid $75 70's dollars. That would make it worth about a buck $2.98 in
70's dollars today.

James, nice looking jacket. I don't think leather will shrink

You could always get it soaking wet and put it on and ride it dry,
it should stretch out a bit and fit that a way. Works with cowboy
boots and fitting a saddle anyway

Tried that, didn't work. It's not the wast that to small, it's the arms, must be all the lugging I do at work. They just seem to ride higher up then I remember when I bought it. Now I really need to get pants and boots for myself, and full kit for the wife.

I lightened you pic James, hope you don't mind. They are all pretty close in design. The grommeted belt holes is a better touch

Every time I take it off I always flip the end of the belt back out of the way. I always liked the look of the old leather over the new materials. The epaulets? straps on the shoulder always got my gloves, and the small pocket got the keys.

Schott Perfecto was the first bike jacket I owned. I bought it as a teenager in the mid-70s at a mom-and-pop dept. store called Greenbergs. Always hated the belt-buckle, but the jacket was indestructible. Then I inherited a Harley motorcycle cop's jacket.

When I started riding again last year, I wore my goatskin G-1 flight jacket. When my wife bought a 'proper' modern bike jacket for herself, I got one too- a Tourmaster Cortech leather jacket. I have to say, I think the modern jacket is more suitable with the vents and armour. I picked a style that doesn't look *too* modern.

The armour is a good idea. Somewhere. maybe here. I saw a report on the relative abrasion resistance of denim, heavy synthetics and leather. The leather was by far the best material to have between your skin and the asphalt. Maybe leather with armour is the best. Does the fabric jacket flutter in the wind?

If by classic, you mean like the Schott Perfector, I haven't seen such a thing.

I think my Cortech Coaster is pretty much classic style, though. Now they make it as the Coaster II, a bit more 'cafe'.

I just hope we don't have to live up to the name...

I've heard that armor is mostly for the fall and leather mostly is for the slide. With armor/leather combination, you can't be beat!

The Cortech Coaster jacket and pants look like good ones at a good price

I got *last year's* Coaster jacket. Has a shirt-style collar and few other small differences. It was on New Enough's Ebay auction. I won it for a whopping total of $70 with the shipping. Check out their auctions. They have them all the time, and they're very pleasant to deal with. Get the jacket a size larger. According to the sizing chart I should have been an xsmall, but small fits just right.

The only thing that fits me from 30 years ago are my glasses (but the lenses got thicker, too).
