Obviously it's subjective, Scott.  But excellent releases in '71 from the Stones, The Who, The Doors, T Rex, Led Zeppelin, Santana, Yes, Rod Stewart, Traffic and Janis Joplin! [posthumously] What ya got?!!

You can go on, Allman Brothers at Fillmore East, Humble Pie Rockin' the Fillmore, James Gang at Carnegie Hall, Jethro Tull with Aqualung, Kinks and Muswell Hillbillies, ZZ Top debuted, 4 way Street came out, the only CSN&Y record I can stand, Little Feat, Rory Gallagher's solo debut, Grand Funk Railroad, I still listen to Pictures at an Exhibition once in a while, the list goes on...

As I didn't buy a bike for my winter project this year I've turned my attention towards vintage hi-fi equipment repairs.  Mostly tape machines, but a couple of receivers and amps too.

My listening lately has been mostly Thin Lizzy, early David Bowie, and various 60s psychedelic rock.

Steve, cool.  My two buddies with me, they were from Houston, were both rabid Johnny Winter fans.  But we were struck dumb by SRV.  Rich

Hey Rich... One of my regrets was not seeing SRV in concert, he was just gone too soon.  RIP Stevie...
Saw SRV four times.  First time was at the old Music Hall in Houston for the Texas Flood tour.  He played the entire album.  Eric Johnson opened.

Saw him three more times in SoCal, when I lived there.  My only regret was not seeing him when he toured with Jeff Beck.

Last month I saw an SRV tribute act in Fredericksburg called Texas Flood.  They were great.  Lead by a Hungarian guy named Tommy Kotana.  The closest I’ve heard to Stevie, even his voice.  They are based out Dallas.  They also do non-SRV gigs, playing blues from all the greats.

First on the work bench is a TEAC A-4010S tape deck.  After years of use the deck is starting to struggle at the ends of the tape.  Starting with a clean and oil, new belts, and re-cap the tape transport section.

I've got two of these decks so I ordered up enough caps to do both units.

Once the transport is up-to-snuff I'll check the playback and record amps for needed work.  Love these decks and can't wait to have them back to like new mechanical condition.

Neat! I have a TEAC A-3340s. I haven't fired it up in many years.
It certainly needs new belts and probably new caps as well.

Very nice, the A-3340S is a beast of a machine!

The best part is it was given to me. I have several of the large NAB reels for it.
It's on the project list but the list is long.

I was dreaming about a Revox B77 for many years ago

but changed my mind to the more handy cassette format. Lower price too. My K6 took my money ;D

The brushed alu fronts back then looked good.
Akai had also a good looking tape recorder with huge reels.

I know what you mean, I love my cassette decks as well...

2 Nakamichi 670ZX
1 Nakamichi 682
1 Nakamichi 681
2 TEAC A-800
1 Sansui D550M
1 Sansui D570

A couple of these need some TLC as well.  One of the A-800's needs the record section re-capped, and one of the 670ZX needs some bulbs replaced and just a general tune-up.

My uncle got me hooked on this stuff when I was 14 years old.  He was a lifer in the Army and purchased all kinds of audio equipment during his time over seas.

I still have my Akai GX-M10 cassette deck from around 1980. It has super low hours on it. Not sure how high up the quality scale it is but it still worked the last time I tried it.

I certainly wouldn't mind finding a Nakamichi deck!
