This is moving along nicely.  Still stockpiling parts needed for the restoration of the bike.  A UPS delivery is expected tomorrow so I should finally be able to get started.

Tire selection is not the best in Thailand but Dunlop has a strong presence.  I ride with Dunlop D604s on my CRF250L.  I'm looking at the Dunlop K70s for the CB750.  Readily available, inexpensive, and looks to be a good all purpose general tire.  IMO it has a classic vintage look with a retro pattern tread.  The Dunlop K70 tires seem to be popular with many CB750 owners?

The Dunlops are a good choice. They work well and look right.

A quick observation on Dunlop tires.  I'm on my 3rd set of D604s.  Many people do not like the tire and say it is too hard and not very good with turns and cornering and not very good in the dirt.  Totally agree but I like the stability and firmness and durability of the tire.

Also I noticed that the Dunlop D604 front tire is Made in Japan and the rear tire is Made in Indonesia.  I always thought this was strange.  I just checked photos of the K70 and it is exactly the same - the front K70 tire is made in Japan and the rear K70 tire is made in Indonesia.

Dunlops are very good tires but FYI - 3.25" was the stock tire size for the front.  3.5 should be ok though if you cant get 3.25.

Be sure to replace tubes and rim strips too.

Thanks mate.  Tires have not been ordered yet.  There is a 3.25 available so I will get that size for the front.

Dunlop K70 3.25-19 Price $79
Dunlop K70 4.0-18 Price $103

Price includes delivery right to my door by courier

I am slowly meeting many of  the CB750 owners here in Thailand. Great guys and lots of beautiful bikes.  The owner of this CB750 specializes in restoring Yamaha SR400's which have a huge following.  The Yamaha SR400 is very popular bike in Thailand with lots of available parts.

John has put together a bunch of nice bikes, pipes often are new and fenders that spent their lives indoors and in northern climates often look really good compared to weathered versions...

I am definitely seeing what weathered chrome looks like.  I spent a little time on the handlebars this morning.  Only minor surface rust so it came right out and polished up nicely.  I really like these handlebars - they are taller and suit me well.  Do they look like stock Honda CB750 handlebars??

Also I am experimenting with different rubber work gloves.  I tried cheap disposable thin hospital latex gloves from a large box and they were too tight, horribly hot and sweaty, and ripped quickly.   Truly terrible

Big, oversized shop gloves I found I can't use my fingers and do the sometimes very tight work - too bulky. I then found a set of black heavier but I would consider medium thickness rubber shop gloves with a textured underside (for better gripping).  Good size that is not too tight but not too loose and leaves enough room to allow a little circulation. Good grip and I can manage the small detailed work with ease.  Good fit, comfortable, and not sweaty.  Winner and cost only $2.

Hard to see in the photos but there is a vertical rise in the handlebars from the bottom to the top of approximately 6 inches or 15 cm.

As a comparsion the rise in my stock handlebars on my CRF250L is only 2 1/2 inches or 6cm.  Very low and uncomfortable as I am very tall so I added Rox 3" inch handlebar risers to my CRF250L soon after purchasing the bike.

The height of the handlebars on the CB750 is perfect for me! Comfortably upright!

Yes they look to be stock bars and that cleaned up nicely.

Bars look great. For parts like the chrome bends at the bottom start of your throttle cables, don’t hesitate to use a small brass brush to knock of all the flakes and rust before you start. Makes the job easier!

This is turning into a very fun project  :)

Both the tachometer and speedometer housing backing plates were heavily corroded.  When I first looked at them I thought they were beyond hope so I searched online and found OEM replacements for $45 each.  It looks like every part for this bike is a minimum of $45 :o . . . so why not try cleaning . . .

Before and After - Tachometer housing backing plate soaking in WD-40 before cleaning and Speedometer housing backing plate after cleaning

Closeup of the Tachometer housing back plate after cleaning and light polishing.  You can see where the rust has pitted the metal but as these are on the backside they are not highly visible.  This bike will never be a show bike so this is totally acceptable.
