Slow Jet CB750 K4
« on: January 17, 2025, 06:31:22 AM »
Hi all I have been rebuilding a CB750 and it runs but after a while it dies on me. I have taken the carbs off and rechecked everything and found teh slow jet on two carbs has snapped off after the threaded section. Leaving the end of teh jet with teh holes in stuck in the carb body!!
Not good!
Anyone any amazing ideas how to get the broken bit out of teh carb body. I dont fancy trying to drill it out to be honest, have had it in an ultrasonic cleaner originally and again today.
I have an MOT test tomorrow so I have put it all back together and hoping it will run and get me there?!?
Any and all ideas welcome
Thanks

Ned
There are 2 ways, both require some drilling.
1. Get a reverse drill bit a little bigger than the hole in the jet so it can bite into the brass.
Heat the carb body around the jet to melt the gummed old gas that has locked the threads(the reason it snapped off!). You should see the gummed gas bubble.
Go at a slow speed when drilling so it can grab as it gets in the brass.

2. Drill out for an easy out of the correct size.

Sorry, no easy way so you don't have to drill.

The problem feels familiar. ;D
Not stock pilot jets, right?

I used 2.0mm drill and drilled the small hole free of brass debris. I check the depth without pilot jets in OK carbs. 086A carbs (K6) same type of pilot jets.

I used tape on the drill so I could see when drilled to that depth.
If hole is xy mm deep, tape on drill at that depth. I drilled very carefully to not drill too deep. 2 carbs had brass debris. I drilled all 4 to make them equal. 2.0mm was more or less exact.

See where I wrote about it
