Cb750A Parts?
« on: January 21, 2025, 06:33:19 AM »
My very clever friend Terry is busy digging into a cb750A engine I picked up a while back. He is using parts of it (surgically altered) to build a small dyno (both his G’children are serious go kart racers and he is their even more serious “Chief Mechanic”).

I’ve pulled the gen. and cover, starter motor and spur gears and a few small bits. Anyone desperately need anything else?

Will the dyne somehow be able to report HP and torque?
Sounds like a cool project.

Steve…… I don’t believe actual H.P numbers. More likely a pressure reading or “needle on a face” reading that can be compared to prior “pulls”. I’ll posts some pictures if he actually gets it to work.

P.S. Terry is an amazing machinist/ fabricator. I bet it will work!

In my high school auto shop there was a small gas engine dyno. There was a brake drum that was connected to the crankshaft, and the brake plate had a 1 foot long lever that rested on a scale. When the brake was applied, the lever pushed down on the scale, reading torque directly in ft/lbs. With a tachometer to read RPM, the HP could be calculated.

As often happens here, distance becomes the barrier to parts trading.

Bryan….. I’ve never had any issues with my cb750 generators. Thanks for the reminder, I’ll ask Terry to put it aside. Never hurts to have a spare!

Only ever had 1 500 stator duff and that was on mine, had been dropped on a corner before i got it and a winding was broken, i soldered it back together, borrowed some nail varnish and it was still working when i sold it!

I need to pull the covers off the engine for the Rickman CR for polishing. I might fit the “A” parts back in. Read about it, but never tried it.
