Rocker,

I agree - but it is a Sandcast engine bike, very rare and it looks to be in Concourse condition.  At that prce though, it will probably never see the road....  what a shame.  Do a search for World motorcycles in San Francisco - it may clear it up a bit.

i'd be willing to take a small bet they used another ebay account to get the bid just below the reserve.  who would bid 16+ thousand dollars for a collector bike, not meet the reserve, then not just pony up another grand or two to get above the reserve?  if you've got 16+ to blow on a bike, you've got 20 grand to blow on a bike.  IMO

It's the Holy Grail of CB750's. Relatively few were made and at almost 40 years old fewer remain.

I noticed the broken fin as well on the right side cyl. block. I think it is a great bike, but when I see a broken fin on a bike in this price range. Hmmmmmmmm Is a non-wrinkle tank correct for this bike?

I believe it SHOULD have a wrinkle tank...  but he said it's a replacement tank.

And he's still trying to sell it for $20k.  Sheesh.

Also, shouldn't it have the NON stamped pipes?

Also it has a replacement seat from DSS, which, IIRC, are built on K1 seat bases, which have the wrong number of holes and metal creases and they are in the wrong places.

16K is top-dollar with everything that is wrong with it.

Yes, a Candy Blue-Green early diecast with all the noticeable sandcast features, (such as the smooth oil filter housing, etc.) but a diecast engine.  In Like-New condition.

I would give body parts for one, seriously.

This is nuts and the current bid is up to $17,600 witha  "Buy it Now" for $20,000.

You will notice however that he has an error in his description.  There is no such thing as matching numbers on an Asian bike.  When questioned about this absurdity, he admitted they do not match.

"You are 100% correct. Frame VIN# CB750-1004315.
Engine serial # CB750E-1004152.
Typo error on my part."

That's odd.  I've never made a typo that was as coherent as the phrase "matching frame and engine serial numbers". ::) ;)

True for most bikes, but with Yamaha motorcycles they do match.  Kawasaki, Honda and Suzuki do not - although there is usually a 'correct' range of numbers to go with a specific frame number, it's not possible to be 100% sure.

With Kawasaki, the engines were numbered as the engine was being built.  Then they would run each engine on a dyno before installing the engines in bikes - if an engine failed the dyno test, they would pull it apart and rebuild it - and a few weeks later that engine would make it's way into a frame.  With a situation like this, you can find engines with numbers seemingly too early for the frame - but that's how they came from the factory.

Things get even more confuesd when bikes started to be assembled in the USA and Japan - engine numbers are all over the place.

Jeff -- Thanks for that post.  You're sure about the Yamahas?  I've worked on my share of those too, and don't remember seeing matching numbers.  Regardless, appreciate the input.

I can't speak for the new generation bikes - I don't pay them any attention, but all the older bikes RD250's, XS650's etc. have matching numbers.

I don't have the experience you do with the older stuff, though I have worked on some XS650s, and more recently Banshees, Raptors, YZs, R1s, V-Stars and Road Stars.  My memory is definitely failing me these days, but I think I would have been startled enough to remember if I encountered matching numbers, being an old crusty Honda man and thus never having seen that before.  I defer to your experience however.   :)

Actually many older Suzuki 2-strokes will have matching VIN and engine numbers for example the T500s. Also my 1970 CB750 K0 bike has 'almost' matching numbers, the engine number is only 3 less tham the VIN.
