newbie question
« on: March 22, 2007, 04:53:02 pm »
embarrassed doesn't even begin to describe how I feel that I have to ask this question.  So here it goes ... Which position is "on" for the choke?  Is it perpendicular to the ground or parallel to it?

Not knowing what bike or carbs you have, I'm guessing they're the type with the choke lever right on the side of the carb body (left side actually).  Lever parallel to the ground; "up" is choke on, limited air flow into the carb.  Lever perpendicular to the ground "down" is choke open, full flow.

And don't worry, last spring when I brought mine out of cold storage, I had a brain fart and ran mine backwards for a day.  Started wide open and ran closed and wondered why it was sooooo difficult to start and ran soooooo crappy.  Duh.

hey,
I'm still confused because you say that when the lever is parallel it is "on" and when it is perpendicular it is "open" ...  What position do I want to start the bike in? Parallel or perpendicular?

You run the bike with the choke closed and start it with the choke open.

And we are still confused because you haven't told us what bike you have.
