Topic: Thank God for Digital Cameras!

The last time I overhauled my carbs, I think the only digital cameras around were those $10,000 pro models .  Now they are everywhere.  It is so nice to be able to quickly grab my Handy Cam (which has a digital still function) and take a quick shot of how certain washers and nuts go as I am taking the carb linkage apart.  A quick upload to my PC and I have all the records I need.  Ain't technology great  (unless it stops working, then we are all sunk ).

It's really strange you mention EMP, as I was thinking the same thing.  We're becoming too dependant on electronics and electrical things, all the emergency services and military depend heavily on it and it's getting even MORE dependant.  What's to keep the enemy from setting off a nuclear weapon at say, 300 miles over the U.S. (or any other country) and completely wiping all the electronics out nation-wide?  Scary.

Or, to a lesser extent, take out some or oure key satellites with a missile or two, which the U.S. felt the Chinese were doing with recent  missle tests. Of course it is OK for the U.S. to have such capability, just nobody else.

OK, as one of the deviants, in an effort to get it back on track, I agree with the original post. I never go out to the garage to work on the bike without the old digicam. More than once, I have encountered something, shot a pic and uploaded it here and gotten answers, in some cases, in minutes. Dropping the old 35mm roll off at Wal-mart can't compete with that.

Years ago i used a Poloroid camera for the same thing. This Digital stuff really allows you to take as many angles as u like, store the record and re shoot something else. When you reach a certain vintage, short term memory cannot be trusted as much.

It is amazing how far/fast this particular technology has advanced. My D100 is now "vintage' also.

That picture reminds me of the first home video cameras.  The recording unit was the same size as your home vcr, but it had a strap to carry it over your shoulder, which made it "portable".

First time I took my digital camera to the shop I suffered from seeing my greasy fingerprints on it. One year later, 3 Mp is old so I use it with no remorse and plan to keep it as a "tool", and I'll buy a better one for the "family" pictures. I picture everything. Even the spares before going to the boxes, so I know where is everything. I even have pictures of each bike from all points of view, that is, I just park the bike and start shooting close ups of wheels, disc brakes, mirrors, instruments, engine etc. In case I need to buy something I can quickly check compatibility from my computer without having to go to the garage. And it also helps when you have to post a picture to help somebody; you always have a picture of that part of the bike. Don't forget to shoot from below to see the oil pan, lower side of the exhaust etc.

     Unless your domicile IS a Faraday cage, we're all susceptible. An EMP could render almost ALL electronic devices
useless, including TV's microwaves, and computers. We'd all be relegated back to the Stone Age!
And guess What? Iran, North Korea, among others, have the the capability to launch a missile to a high enough altitude to cause untold damage to all Western electronics. Enough to put us all at their technological level! IE: Somewhere around the Middle Ages!
       It's time for the rest of the world to realize what it's facing. It's the end of civilization as we know it.
