Ran when parked - new SOHC member Chicago area
« on: March 19, 2007, 10:33:05 AM »
Just picked up my first SOHC4 this weekend

http://www.sohc4.us/gallery/v/members/personal/loan+_hark/

1978 CB550K4, pretty much original except for the tires and the cheesy luggage rack.  Doesn't run and the front caliper is frozen.  Looking to cafe it over time, no real timeframe but would like to keep it a budget build.  Been riding 12+ years but bikeless the last 3 so this is definitely a welcome addition to the garage.  I'll definitely post pics once I get a plan going and start making progress on the actual build. In in the west burbs, about 30 miles from downtown Chicago.

Looks good enough for a project. The thing that jumped out at me was.......ran when parked. You gotta think about that statement.....ran when parked. I gotta 2007 Corvette. I drove it for 200 miles yesterday and it wouldn't start this morning. Or.................I just bought a  78 Honda 550 that ran when I parked in in 1979!!!!
Any machine that sits too long is suseptable to all kinds of problems. Depending on the severity of where and how it sat.....it could have been garaged for 20 years or it could have sat in the bottom of a lake for 2 days.
Your bike is looking good as a project though......take a crack at getting it running.
