Shorter brake line for CB550
« on: May 12, 2005, 08:23:41 AM »
Where can I get replacement brake lines for the CB550 that are shorter than stock?  And what's the install process like?

I put on lower handlebars and now my front brake line has a lot of slack and a nasty loop in it.

Thanks,
Justin

If I were you I would invest in a braided stainless line. I have one on both my bikes and its wonderful. Pegasus racing supplies out of Milwaukee sell them in custom lengths with whatever fittings you need at a very reasonable cost. They're fast too. Multiple sources sell a banjo bolt that has a pressure switch in it so you replace the lines and the switch from stock. Total cost ~$40. Totally worth it.

Installation is a breeze. Just pull the old line, making sure not to get fluid on your painted surfaces. Get 4 new crush washers and install the line. Then you just top off the reservior with fresh fluid and bleed the brakes normally. It takes a few minutes to pump a line full of fluid, but its not hard to do.

The pressure switch detects pressure in the brake system and switches on the brake light.  It is located as part of the fitting attached to the bottom yoke (triple tree). The banjo fittings are so called because they look like banjos (at least they do when they are apart)

Ahh, I see.

On my bike, there is a mechan-o-electric switch right at the brake lever.  Is there an advantage to this pressure switch?  I could see removing it from the elements as being a plus.
