1981 CB650 Barn Bike....Phase 3: Well, its in pieces now.

Top end is disassembled. Cases are separated. Problem found. The main engine chain tensioner broke off, taking a piece of the lower case with it. Not sure why.

I got an old set of cases to replace the broken ones. I will need new crankshaft main bearings. Clymer says to cross reference the letters on the back of the crankcase and the numbers stamped on the crankshaft counterbalancers to come up with the correct bearings.

The back of the "new" cases has letters stamped "BBAAA." The weights/counterbalancers on the crankshaft have numbers stamped (2,2,2,2, and ?)...the last one has a smudge. Is it a "1?" No way to tell. The "old" crankcase is stamped "BBBBB." Not sure if that would indicate a likely 2.

Is there another way to figure out what bearing corresponds to the journal with the mystery number? Is a micrometer the only solution?

Thanks,  Caleb.
