I like the off center stripe idea, but I think I wouldn't have them quite as far off center.

Maybe center the inner stripe and then have the other to the left of that? I like the width, though. And spacing between looks right on, too.

Not to start a war, but I like the placement of the stripes, its different. Reminds me of the old Lemans race cars...

last couple of weeks have been pretty slow.... I'll try and get some photos up this weekend.
I've got one of the motors back in the frame and am working on cleaning up the wiring harnesses.
Still have to clean up the other motor and get it back in after adjusting the cam chain and tappets etc.
Then on to more polishing clutch cover etc.... and finally to the fun stuff (for me) fabricating a seat pan
and paint & body work.

That one with the stripes I'm starting to lean toward a dark dark midnight blue w/ the stripes being in
a ivory / creme color.... still up in the air.

Again, thanks everyone for the encouragement - this site makes it so much easier than it used to be.

Hey greenjeans....I have a 1978 CB750K I also picked up from a guys garage for $300! I'm about to start my rebuild. Tear-down will commence this weekend! It's looking great btw. Were you talking about the Dallas Mavericks?

Yep.... I'm a mavs fan. 300 bucks ? you lucky dog.... you're not in the Dallas area are you?
Been looking around here DFW for months with little success for a 750 for the next project.

Try craigslist. That's where a lot of them are going these days. I think there's a cb750ss on there now for $700. Haven't checked in a few days though....

Hey Greenjeans....are you in Dallas? I bought a CB500 about four years ago, and am just now starting my cafe build. I'm down to the frame, about to strip and paint it. Let me know if you're in the area, and when i'm finished, we can head to the Dubliner for a pint or three. The bike looks killer, very very nice.

I'm just north of Dallas - in Denton. Rebuilt the brakes/calipers/master cylinders this weekend. I'm in the process of fabricating seatpans
that will utilize the factory hinge & locking mechanism.... finally getting close to painting (that's the most fun for me) Will post pics etc. later this week.

I'll take you up on that pint or three, as soon as I'm road worthy.

I'm stuck, waiting to find some new fork tubes. Haven't even begun figuring out the seatpan. I've got the original seat, and have been thinking about trimming it and shaping it. Let me know how it goes for you, and I'd love to see some pics when you're finished.

That stuff is actually really good stuff. I used it on a set of track wheels and they held up grate. Here is a pic of the before and after (ran out of paint on the 4th wheel)

Duplicolor engine enamel paints are really good for wheels/frames/etc..
They come in low/semi/and gloss finishes...

Wanted some "knee dents" so I got out some hammers, made a template and after a few beers, I had enough courage to start whacking on the tank... suprised at how easy it was. You don't really have to tap that hard - I just started in the center and tapped around in concentric circles until I had about what I wanted. Went really slow around the edge of the shape and was suprised to find out how little filler was needed.

Then I needed a seat.... Used the seatpan for one, and fashioned another out of aluminum. Got some expandable foam and went to town... Make sure you get the sandable, paintable kind
