CB175 - finally mine!!
« on: March 29, 2007, 07:33:57 AM »
Well, I FINALLY picked up my new kid this morning.  Yup, the hitch-platform thingy did work; although I would never try it with anything bigger.  30 mph tops thru the city (the monster potholes were fun...) with no mishaps.  The platform works, but I'll be needing some modifications (tire extensions w/rails, better ramp...)  before I try it again.

Now I just need some quality time to see what the heck I have acquired.

Lucky you. I had a brand new '72 as my first bike. They are great fun to ride and surprisingly capable on the highway. Looks like a '70 or '71.

Oh dear. My 175 was a '71 and in that colour.

I've been looking for another one ever since.  It was the 360 degree motor that sounded so much better than the 180 degree 250/350s.

This is the only surviving picture, taken in 1976. The original exhausts had rotted, to be replaced by a set of Dunstall silencers.

Good eye - its a 1970.  The tank is in great shape, so is the left sidecover.  Right one has some cracks, but glue-able with little impact.  Seat is virtually unscathed.  Tires are shot.  Its the same year as my other (non-running) CB175, so the horde of parts I've collected is intercangable.  I haven't had a chance to look into the electronics or mechanicals on this one yet.  Mufflers have small rot.

Wow, Steve, I think they're twins but for the fairing & bags.

Craven panniers and fairing. I think the rack was a Craven as well.

Did you spot the cool 1976 aviator sunglasses?

The 175 truly was a phenominal bike. Ah for the time and money to get my '68 up and running again!

Steve- did you relocate the rear turn signals because of the panniers or is that some sort of English-model thing?  And I bet if I dug hard enough in my messy basement, I could find some avaitors of my own to recreate the scene.   ;)

Yes. The turn signals were mounted on the frame as they would have fouled on (and been covered up by) the panniers. It was all part of the kit, together with wiring.

Very nice looking bike. I have a couple SL's but would love to pick up a CB.

The 175's are just a blast to ride around town.
