carb issue w/ solution
« on: April 30, 2007, 06:55:54 PM »
While riding, my engine performance went way down.  When I put it in neutral,  it would rev up very nicely.  It lost about 75% of low end torque. It would almost stall going in to 1st.  I could reach  very high speeds though.   I was thinking a main jet had fallen out but that was impossible on my 550 being it has those spring clips.  I took em apart and one of the slow jets had vibrated out.  I love it when it is so simple.

A few years ago I rebuilt some carbs for a buddy.
complete rebuild, boiled, new jets, floats everything, the idle jets they sent were the wrong style for the carbs so since it was a rush job I decided to clean and re-use the old idle jets.
reassembled, boxed them up and dropped them off in the morning on the way to work, that evening while working on another bike, I found the baby food jar with the idle jets still soaking.

needless to say, the bike didn't run that well.
