Hey, which one of you guys was saying your coffee maker machine broke, so now you use a perculator?

I bought a perculator coffee maker for use when I go camping..  The one thing these old percs have on new drip machines?  They produce LIQUID FIRE!!!  All perculators do this- they make coffee that is so hot, I burn my tongue with it every single time I use it, regardless of how long I let it sit in my mug to cool off it seems!  :)

Gotta love the old percurs, nothing beats the coffee they make on a cold snowy day out in the woods.

Used to have the same problem with super hot campfire coffe, but now
I just start up the car-wake everybody up--spread some CO around and in a few
minutes I have a fine cup at proper temp.

I've been using Melita cones for over 30 years now.  Simple, light, makes great coffee.  A little ceremony showing every cup the respect it deserves.

At one time, I used a Bodum Bistro pot, and I suppose it might be good camping because all you need is hot water and ground coffee.  If you haven't used one of these pots, you pour the ground coffee in the pot, fill the pot with boiling water, wait a few minutes, and then use the plunger to "screen" the grounds "safely" to the bottom.  I used to slurp 2 mugs of this in the morning.  It wasn't the caffeine that got me to stop; it was the paint stripping effect on my stomach.  The fact that I ground my own coffee to a fine consistency didn't help.

You'll note that coffee produced this way defies science in that no light can pass through it.

When I was "between jobs" I drank 2.5 carafe's of coffee
at home waiting for employers to call.
Now somewhat employed, I only drink 7-9 cups a day.
Whew, I am no way near as hyper as I used to be. ::)

The closest i get to having caffine in the morning or for the day for that matter is what ever amount is in either a bottle of coke or one of those energy drinks (Monster, Full throttle, etc...) I blame not drinking hot coffee on something that happened a couple years ago...i just dont like hot liquids anywhere near me thank you very goddamn much lol...Lets just say said event involved diesel, fire and a firefighter that found himself on his ass and on fire after a rookie got stupid...

Working night shift at a Naval Air Facility in Sicily.
My turn to clean out the coffee pot.
C.O. comes into the john & finds me cleaning out the pot with a toilet bowl brush !
Problems ensued.
I actually didn't drink coffee at that time, though.

Military men are more tolerant of getting shot at, than messing with their coffee.
I wonder if you've been speaking in a higher voice since the incident?

This did almost turn into a major life-changing incident (re"The Last Detail"),
but I happened to play tennis most noontimes with the legal officer
and it got resolved--though not before they let me sweat it out
for a few weeks !!

That's serious.  On a related note, do sailors still drink their coffee with a pinch of salt in it?  Is there are reason for putting salt in coffee?

I believe a pinch of salt will take some of the bitterness out of overcooked and/or generally old coffee.

LMAO! That one made me laugh god knows i needed it after what i found out tonight. But no in all seriousness a rookie in another dept that was at the same training school i was thought it would be fun to find out what happens when one tosses a 5 gallon jug of Diesel fuel into an open fire...i found out the end result goes something like BOOOM!!! and i found myself back on the opposite side of the room with my arm on fire after some of the remaints of the jug fused themselves to my gear.

Too true!  Even out on patrols, my breaches of security were tolerated when they involved making coffee on my little mountaineering stove.  I was the most popular and tolerated guy in the team as long there was 'mud' to be had!   ;)
