What is this world comming to???!!!
« on: March 28, 2007, 12:32:34 PM »
The bikes that we have and love are metric.  No problem. I have a whole set of tools for my bike.  Today I am changing the oil on my Chevy Suburban, I grab my SAE wrenches and squeeze myself underneath (even with jack stands it is tight).  I find that the oil drain plug is 15mm!! >:(  So I squeeze back out, getting oil on the side of the truck (I then jack it up further) and grab my metrics!  That just upsets the balance of the universe!  I need another beer. :-\

There is a lot of metric stuff on domestic machinary. The Buell Blasts we used to use for training bikes had an adaptor so that the metric mirrors could screw into the imperial mirror mountings on the bars!

Not to highjack here...but you mentioned the Buell Blast...are they any fun to ride? They are dirt cheap by comparison to most bikes and am looking for something small and light to use as a daily driver but looking at the specs they only showed around 35 or so BHP...seems awfully underpowered to be any fun at all...just curious!?!?

Thanks,
Dennis

I'd say most all mid-90's and newer "domestic" cars are metric. When I worked at Goodyear and K-Town Cars I never used "standard" .  Guess there's a new standard.  But with the 64 Valiant, and the 75 D100 I still need them.

Short answer. Yes they are a hoot to ride; the lack of power makes one more 'involving' to ride, like other even smaller capacity machines. The bike has an extremely tall first gear so you have to be adept at your use of the friction zone of the clutch when pulling away from a stop, especially on a hill. Around town you would seldom get out of second gear.

On the highway the bike is good for a cruise of about 110kph. After that it runs out of steam pdq.
