Rear wheel bearing removal, almost there I think
« on: March 29, 2007, 11:20:25 AM »
Hi I searched for all the info I could but I'm still unsure of my next move.  I have knocked out the brake side bearing as well as the spacer by punching from the drive (other) side.  I can see the centermost bearing now from the brake side.  I can't see how to punch out the end most 6305 bearing without hitting the center 6304 bearing that sits against it.  Anything wrong with doing it this way?  FYI I did get the 4 holed retainer out of the drive side already.

Three bearings = 750...   ;)

Separate the sprocket carrier from the wheel. After you get the bearing retaining ring unscrewed, pull on the sprocket (or sprocket studs) and pull the hub off the cush drive. You can get at the middle/inside bearing then.

I have a couple wheels torn apart, if you need pics.

What is the cush drive?

edit: saw another thread and it answered my question, I'll try pulling off the cush drive.  Thanks.

OK; you haven't said if it's a K or F model...here's a K...(I have an F if you need it)...

The sprocket carrier is the clean aluminum piece (minus studs & bearing, retainer on top), you can see the wheel/cush drive (black rubber piecesl also has a bearing retainer...the brake side doesn't...two bearing retainers; one in the sprocket carrier, one in the wheel...

Both the F and K have one "floating" wheel bearing and one "fixed", but the retainers for the "fixed" bearing are on opposite sides...the K has the retainer on the cush drive side; the F has the retainer on the brake disk side...

Bearings/seals on K and F are the same...

And now we've exhausted my knowledge of rear wheels...   ;D
