Help Identifying CB550 Header
« on: March 29, 2007, 06:21:58 PM »
I just won this header on Ebay and was hoping you could confirm the description.

Auction read:

This auction features a genuine Kerker header head pipe.
Fits Honda four cylinder between the 350 ~ 550. We're not exactly sure which.
Please use the details and photos below to determine application to your particular model.

Diameter of mounting flange at head 1 5/8 inch
Diameter of header tubes 1 3/8 inches
Diameter of tube at header exit 1 3/4 inches

Please see photos below to view mounting collar style and pipe bend for oil filter access.

Is this indeed a Kerker for a CB550?

Thanks
Jimmy

Fitment would be great but I haven’t got it yet.
Sure looks like a 550 pipe.
Measurements say it is, but is it a KERKER?
Can’t find any real good pics of a Kerker 4 into 1 anywhere!

Someone here knows what it is!

1 3/8" header tubes is kinda big...my 550's only use 1 1/4" tubes (4 into 4)...

I would think you'd lose some low end torque...

550 exhaust ports are angled relative to one another.  Looking down from the top, the header spigots should look something like this (exaggerated, of course): \  /  \  /

If they're all basically parallel as it appears in the pic, there's no way its for a 550.

Thanks for piping up. I wish I had consulted you before I laid down the winning bid.

I've always wanted a quality header like Yosh or Kerker.

Guess I'll have to relist her......or maybe find a bike to fit the pipe.

What do think it fits? CB400 maybe.

Measure the centerline-to-centerline pipe spacing between #1 and #4?  On a 350F/400F, the spacing is approximately 10 inches.  A 750 is approximately 12".   Keep us posted.

Never found the Kerker to be particularly good quality, but they were the loudest ;D. (wasn't impressed by Yoshi either but don't think any of the good ones from 70's are still in business, most went bust before the 80's were done)
All the ones I saw/fitted had collector a bit further to the side it was going to exit.
You  can probably offload it to a 750 owner as it doesn't look like a 550 one to me.

yes - if you look at the middle pic, and rotate it so that the collector is horizontal, then the head pipes have a decided downward angle, consistent with the 750 tilted engine (not upright like the 550). That plus the large pipe diameter would lead me to think "750".

But that's a good thing. Those are nice looking pipes. You should be able to get a good price.   ;)

Thanks for all the imput guys.

Those pictures confirm that it's a Kerker.

I just measured the collector extit on my CB550F 4 into 1 and it is 2".
This pipe claims 1 3/4". Wouldn't that suggest a smaller displacement?

Keep your coments comming.

Kevin

My previous reply to your post was a case of mistaken identity.

If it seemed to be an unusual reply to your contribution, that was because I had earlier
emailed a CB400 specialist friend of mine, who is also named Kevin. I thought that he had stumbled across this thread and chose to address it here as apposed to my private email.

I just realized the error in identity when my friend Kevin emailed me his response to my question.

Sorry if my reply to your post seemed a little odd or presumptuous. Nothing personal intended.

Looks like a chrome MAC Header.  I think they look identical to the Kerker as most likely they copied the design.
