Changing a front CB550K rim and modifying it to a CB350K rim
« on: March 30, 2007, 03:08:43 pm »
I want to change a stock disc brake off of a 1978 CB550K and I want to put a 1973 CB350K front wheel with shoes on it instead. I don't think the axle is long enough on a 1973 CB350K but can I put an axle from a 1978 CB550K with spacers through the 1973 CB350K rim (hub) ???

I'm trying to eliminate the caliper and the hoses and the master cylinder. I have a 1978 CB550K that I've been customizing with parts from ebay (old school). The reason for the change is that I have 6 bend pullbacks and my goal is to eliminate the master cylinder and convert to a cable/shoe brake front end.

Mostly what I'm looking for is the size of the axle on a 1973 CB350K to know if it will lay in place of the 1978 CB550K rim.

Help would be appreciated. Thanks, Richard

I want to change a stock disc brake off of a 1978 CB550 and I want to put a CB350 front wheel with shoes on it instead.

What's the diameter of the 350 axle? The 500/550 uses a 15mm dia axle with 160mm of bearing surface and 218mm OAL..
...stock 1972 CB500 '500 Four' undergoing re-assembly...
...Stock 1972 CL450 'Scrambler' also being re-assembled...
