Painted my CB350F green no silver no red.....
« on: March 30, 2007, 04:53:26 PM »
Well I finally got tired of the crappy tank on my CB350. It had a patch of epoxy on the bottom and was green. Nothing wrong with green...I just don't like it.

So I sourced a good tank and some side covers.

Stripped the tank and covers. Then epoxy primed.

Layed down some Titanium Silver......

It looked ok out in the sunlight....

Just wasn't what I was looking for.

So I busted out the candy.....Shot a coat of clear with Candy added.

Out in the sun.

Need to add the stock stripes and Paint the fork covers and such but let me know what you guys think.

Cheers.

Personally I like the standard green that came on these bikes (candy bacchus olive?) but you bike doesn't look like that green. Looks awsome but if it were me, and since it is not a stock color anyway, I would have gone for the heavy flake underneath that candy red- it is a 70's bike afterall (and yes I would have kept the stock stripes just for fun).

That looks awesome! Now it make the rest of the bike look like it needs some paint. I got my triple tree from a junk yard in bad need of paint. It ended up a perfect match.

Thats as painted. No polish yet. I'll wet sand it and buff it out after the stripes and two more coats of clear.

I use an old half pint touch up gun. I've had it so long I forget who made it.

The paint is Autocolor.

The base is Polyurethane..light titanium silver (ford code y9). Its polyurethane because it was going to be silver lol.

The clear is autocolor clear coat with SEM 2118 candy apple red added in a 1 - 8 ratio.

Which means out of a $48.00 can of candy I used 3 bottlecaps full. About .75 cents worth.

There's scientific proof that green is faster, other than that I like the titanium, the red doesn't look like candy on the pics but it makes the bike stand out. Post a few pics when you finish the detailing.

             Hey Tim,

Sure am glad that you haven't been stuck in Detroit again or some such. Looks like
you've been spending some quality time on the 350 for sure. Man, you ought to take up painting
on the side. ;) 8) I'm sure the factory green looks good but, I'm really liking that red myself. ;D

One of these days, I'm gonna be trying my hand at doing some spray painting myself. Any
tips you want to share? ??? ;D Take care and I'll catch you later on, Bill :) ;)

         Tim,
No doubt about it, you have a talent with the paint gun! ;) That 350 of yours is really standing out. 8) Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

BTW, when you showed us the 350 in silver, it made me think of your Wing. How is the Wing now days, haven't seen or heard anything about that one in a while.

Seems like you've got a pretty nice stable of bikes there. ;) Take care.

                                                 Later on, Bill :) ;)

Been thinking of selling the wing Bill.........

Sad I know but I just don't ride it and if you recall I have that 79 project I picked up. Plus the frankenbike project to finish up.

It only has 1900 some odd miles on it and would be a cool resto.

I need to pop a set of bigger jets in the cafe wing. Its running ok with the shimmed needles but would sure benefit from going up two sizes. I think it would smooth it out across the range.

Its kinda a pain tuning the carbs on the old beasty.

Anyways the 350 needed a sprucing up. Problem is I made a clean spot.
