Topic: Valve Cover Removal

I am in the process of getting my 78 750 SS for spring and am replacing all the screws with stainless allen head my question is can I remove the valve cover with the motor in the frame the gasket does not leak now will I have to replace it if I remove the cover I think it would be a lot easier to adjust the valves with the cover off. Any input would be a big help.

Engine will have to come off to remove the cover, but you could just replace the screws one at a time and probably be ok with the same gasket.

Get yourself a set or three of these:

and you will prolly change your mind about the easiest way to adjust tappets. 

When I first got my 550, I too was concerned that feeler gauges, even the ones with the 45-degree bend, simply wouldn't fit into the hole under a tappet cover.  I was further confused when I started to read this forum.  People refereed to tappet adjustment as simple. 

Then someone turned me on to the right tool! 

Guess it's taking me a bit to Learn the differences between automotive and motorcycle repair.  The concepts are the same, but the tools and techniques can differ greatly!
