CR/squish question + pic update
« on: April 01, 2007, 04:53:37 AM »
Hi all
I am about to send the cylinder block for milling and could be nice to hear a last opinion from the tech forum on CR and squish.
Currently planning on a 11.5:1 CR and 030" squish for my cb500 road racer. I am racing in the 500cc class so sticking to 56mm bores. Am I going over my head with the above figures or rather shooting too low? Would be nice to hear other's experiences.

Here's the last update on the project. Gas tank still needs to be properly painted but will stick with an all-black look.

Cheers
TG

is the 0.030" before head gasket fitting? If so it may be too much. gasket is about 1mm so you'll end up with 0.090"
11.5:1 should be ok, can go a little higher with race gas as combustion chamber is pretty small (about 200psi cold cranking pressure, or around 12.5:1)

thanks crazypj
no, 030" is final squish in the 15 degree ring area that 500/550's have in the head. I'm using a custom cooper gasket of 030" thicknes + milling the block 045".

That engine should be pretty crisp.

I can't wait to hear a ride report or see some dyno readings from this thing.

Thanks Sam, Jay, Mrieck
The first race was in Vallelunga, Rome, missed that one....Shame because that's a really fine track but I was a month off with my build plan.
Next race is 15 of April in Adria near Padova.

Booked already dyno time, heard it all too often that that's the cheapest HP you can buy.
Will try to fit in also a shakedown test but time is runing out!

Cheers
