Titling and registering
« on: April 02, 2007, 10:24:41 AM »
I got a bike off of someone who claims they lost the title.  The bike registration is in his name.  Is it possible to register the bike in a name other than whats on the title?

Also is it possible to find a bike in the trash and make it legal with out going through nevada?

If they lost a title that's in their name then they should be able to apply for a duplicate and then sign it over to you.

Also, I've heard that MA is no longer accepting titles from title companies so you might want to check with your state before using one of them.

If you find a bike that hasn't been registered or titled in a loooong time (like 25 years) go to your DMV and say its your bike and you want to register it after not using it for 25 years but you lost your title.
If it hasn't been titled or registered since 1980 (or stolen) records aren't kept from the years before computer records.

One fellow I read about in this stuation
simply filed a mechanic's lien on the
bike (after he bought it), then after
the lien was not paid he was sent
all fresh paperwork in his name.
Check your local laws of course!
Bikes parked out front mean good chicken-fried steak inside.
