Driving surveillance on the Tail.
« on: April 02, 2007, 02:52:08 PM »

Now if these old boys write their tickets fairly, to all who cross the double yellow
I'd have no problem with it.

Just the other day I was hauling a load of logs off the mountain,
was in a set of blind twisties worse than those pictured in this video and
I was passed by a tractor trailer rig. If I had been packing I'd be doing time
now because I would have shot the SOB when he came up beside me.
It's my neighbors he was endangering with his stupid move.
He could have waited 200 more yards and there was the last passing zone
till the bottom.

ANyway this is an old video and I don't think their doing any surveillance like this now.

For sure, lucky for the other driver.

Squids are using some roads around here like a playground.  Back and forth, back and forth.  I always thought one or two of them were just talking a smoke break or something at some points.  It turns out these guys will pass on blind curves because they have intercoms and take turns doing watch duty.  The guy taking the break is actually watching the road and warns by radio when it's clear to pass or not.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

Notice how the officer doesn't even mention when a car crosses over the double yellow, but calls out every bike even if the wheels barely touch the yellow.

To me, it seems if this would be hard to prosecute even with the video because the bike leaves the officers line of sight.

I'm not defending what's going on, but I hate entrapment and the fact that they only seem to be targeting motorcycles, when a car over a double yellow is much more of a hazard.

Talk about entrapement;  I was reading that some cops in Marin Co (North California) would get on Hwy 1 in a regular car and go waaaay to slow.  When a bike would gun it to go around- BINGO!

Not good!  :)

I personally feel police should use some judgement with regards to the double yellow line because these lines were put in place with cars in mind (large and slow) and not bikes (small and quick), but since the DOT does not differentiate passing zones for bikes and cars, some judgement could be used.  Obviously the section of road in the above video should be double yellow for all.

I do a lot of fast driving in the mountains, I always make it a practice to stay on
my side, I practice it so it is a habit because once it ceases to be a habit the wreck is
just around the corner. I'm also losing my desire to run fast on public roads since I have been
running at VIR this year, once you go all out on a road course you know you can
never match it on the street.

But back to double yellow. Everyday I meet some idiot over the line,
my youngest son hit a trailer being towed that was 3 feet over the line,
I have a ton of pictures of that scene and the damn fellow driving the pickup
towing the trailer lied like the SOB he is (yea I know him) and the State
Trooper didn't do his job either so he didn't ticket him. This was mainly because
my son was 16 or 17 at the time and it's easy to blame it on a kid.
But when the black marks are three feet his side of the line,
well it is pretty damn clear.

You can tell I have a pet peave about crossing a double yellow.
Rant over for now (until I meet the next idiot over the line) .

Boy howdy Uncle Ernie, you got that one right, I can confirm that in spades. Got busted many years ago for my left rear tire(cage) barely touching the yellow, didn't even cross it. You want to meet an anal cop, drive in Marin, every cop must be required by county ordinance to be anal.
