'78 CB750F/GL1000 Caliper reassembly
« on: April 02, 2007, 08:50:54 PM »
Quick answer needed.  It seems I misplaced my "reference" seal in the time between disassembly and reassembly of my front brake calipers (GL1000 on a CB750).  I know number 11 in the picture goes over the piston and seats against the caliper, but does number 3 goe inside of number 11?  Maybe a picture of a 750F caliper looking at the piston would help.  Thanks in advance!

The outer lip of number 11(rubber dust shield) fits to the caliper body, and the inner lip fits into the groove at the top of the piston. Number three is the clip that fits around the outer lip of the dust shield and holds it to the caliper body.

Thanks Scondon, couldn't remember exactly how it went.  One last question, promise, when I disassembled the brakes there was only on thin metal shim against the inside brake pad.  In assembly drawings for the earlier GL's, it shows 2, do I need 2 shims or is 1 ok (or none at all?  I doubt a paper thin piece does anything)?

I've only seen the one shim that goes between the piston and pad(arrow cutout pointing forward). I think it's there to reduce resonance that causes brake squeal. I've done about 8 750F2 calipers but not one GL caliper though they do appear to be the same.
