Well the top speed speaks of how strong the engine is. There is some nice equipment in that engine....I know that for a fact. If Chris lost 50 lbs he would be in the 11's. Not busting balls but he is a big guy. I'd like to see your times Sam when it happens. Bottom line....nice work and I'm glad I had a very small part in making it happen. ;)

Excellent news, Sam ;D Is Chris using the stock gearbox? If so, what is your final drive ratio(front, rear sprocket)? I thought that low 13's would be great for this motor but Chris is sniffin' at high 11's. WooHoo!! ;D ;D ;D

Hi Sean, what a wonderfull weekend, it was glorious sunshine all weekend (my bald spot caught it a bit) ::) ;D
We are useing the stock K4 gearbox the same as the old motor. The old motor only made 60bhp at 8500rpm, used all 5 gears and peaked in top across the line on 15/46 gearing (3.06) with no chance of the front end lifting off the line with Chris on board.
Before we went to the meeting, we took the bike on a short quiet road to get some miles on it. Chris did a few standing starts and had the front end pawing the air without any effort at all.
In order to cure this, I raised the gearing to 17/42 (2.47) what I thought would allow him to launch without scareing the life out of him, and would allow him to peak in 4th as he crossed the line.
The gearing suited the quarter but didn't stop him pulling wheelies 40/50 yards out of the hole ;D ;D ;D ;D causing him to roll it off and record slower ETs.
I thought myself that the bike might run low 13s/high to mid 12s but was blown away when he ran the 12.17. It should go into the 11s when jetted right, it was running that rich , it started sooting the plugs on the last 2 runs.

Thank's Hocker, as I have just said to Sean, it should run stronger when the carbs are set up and he gets used to the extra power he has when he launches it of the line.
As can be seen from his times, he needs to get the launch right every time.

1st 12.65 @ 112mph

2nd 13.05 @ 114mph

3rd 12.17 @ 113mph

4th 12.43 @ 115mph

5th 12.18 @ 117mph

6th 12.73 @ 115mph

7th 12.39 @ 113mph

8th 12.74 @ 112mph

Hi Mike, Chris could afford to loose 85 to 90lbs but would then have the problems I had with the old motor, tons of wheel spin ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

It makes you wonder if we had built a race motor and got his weight down what would the outcome be ? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I know I have said it before in PMs but I would like to thank you in public for all your help and support, Diamond Geezer ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Thanks Freddy, but I think 10s would be asking just a little to much. ;D ;D

Maybe with 12 to 1 pistons, a set of Carillos, 125-95 camshaft and some decent fuel, well maybe ::) ::) ::) ::)

Sam, Thanks for sharing so much info :)  I thought I might have forgotten my manners for a bit when asking about the gearing, competitive racing being what it is. I've been using 2.82 ratio(17/48) as a sort of compromise in getting going from a stop( I may have a few pounds on Chris ;) ) and not revving too high at top speeds.

There doesn't seem to be as much pull in 5th gear, and 4th gear seems to keep pulling hard even at high rpm's. But when I get over 100mph in 4th I start to nervously watch the tach. Your set-up is similar enough to the bike I'm finishing that I am encouraged to think I may be able to drop a couple teeth off the rear and be happy. :)
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

Sean, it's no problem sharing info, let me know what you weigh with your riding gear on, plus what the bike weighs.

If the spec of your new motor is similar to ours, what we know about gearing over given distances may be of some use to you.

Thats really good Sam.

Thought I would "fuel" your fires with some pictures....

This is my buddy Johns bike from back in the day......not saying which day mind you.

On nitro the bike would dip in the nines.

Thanks Tim, another forum I go on has a thread covering old bikes and riders from the past and the big four gets its fair share of coverage.
I saw a pic on there a few weeks ago of an Action Fours more or less stock looking roadster that was running very low 10s :o :o.
They will do it providing you have the money to spend and can get the time in on the strip.
The problem over here is meetings are not as often as you have them unless you are prepaired to travel 100s of miles a week to get track time in.

Hey Sam, what carbs and jetting are you running? Did the jetting change with the big bore?

Yes the mixture is way to rich on the 736 settings, will let you know what we end up with when we have it on the dyno.

The carbs are CR31s.

That is my problem also. The big bore must pull more fuel out of the carbs, so you need to go down on the jetting?!? Makes sense I guess.  Good luck! I put some 29's  that I bought off of ebay on my street bike, have been fighting jetting till I found it had the screened noozles for alcohol!! I wasted a LOT of nice weather riding time finding that out!!!!!! Oh well, I found the problem and have parts coming. Should have just bought new ones.

I'm in two minds wether or not to build a full on race motor from the CB750 F I have just aquired.
The fact that you can run alcohol through these carbs pleases me.
If your carbs have been jetted for methanol, I would think that the mains would be way to high for pump petrol (gas).

Excellent start Sam. Very encouraging. Can't wait to see what it will do once you get the carbs and gearing dialed in. Dyno for the carbs? Wanna see the HP! When you getting on? How many spare rear tires you gonna keep?

Thanks Steve, the Southern meets we have penciled in are May 13th Smeatharpe in Devon, June 30th Weston Zoyland in Somerset, July 21st Tempsford in Cambridgshire and September 15th at Santa Pod Northamptonshire, check for comfirmation nearer the time.

Did you manage to get pics off that stick ?
