Hey Noel, the last time I was paid to leave the UK it was to represent it in 1976. 8) 8) 8)
I was invited to join the British team, racing in Holland.
The host club, The motor club Vittese offered to pay all expenses and a bonus depending on the gate receipts.
A few weeks after the meeting, i received a cheque for some guilders, I can't remember the exact amount but after I took off my expenses, I was left with about £50.00.
Not bad for weekend holiday abroad ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, I think you're barking up the wrong tree Sammy, instead of asking how much the "Macaroons" will pay to get you over there, you should be asking the British government to fund your trip, they'd probably be happy to "chip in", ha ha! :)
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

£50.00 up in 1976, that's not a bad profit for a weekend spent indulging your hobby ; :D

That's one of the great things about motorsport in Europe, we've done a couple of rallies in Belgium where the organising clubs have paid our ferry crossing and entry fees, and arranged heavily subsidised accomodation for us ;D
We usually still end up well out of pocket though, mainly because we've not yet managed to find anyone generous enough to sponsor our bar tabs :-\

That's because English beer is a rare and expensive commodity in Belgium, a country where they make really NICE beer, ha ha! :)

That's the trouble Terry, the belgians do indeed make great beer, and it slides, in large quantites, down the throat like nectar 8)

Yeah mate, it was pretty good when I was there 33 years ago, but then again, as a 14 year old most beer was pretty good, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. :)

Impressive numbers from a 35 year old Honda. Your running low 12's now, but what do you hope to actually run once you get the jetting and tuning dialed in?

Hi ekim, the tuning and jetting seem fine now, it's more a case of getting Chris dialed in ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Chris weighed in at 285lbs when we first put the new motor in. Since then he has lost about 35lbs and we have the motor more or less spot on.

We will have to wait till a meeting comes up where we know the surface and see how he deals with it.

The last three meetings we have done have been at tracks that Chris has never ridden on and all the surfaces have been different.

He is going to have to learn how best to deal with the new found abundance of power and differing track surfaces.

I'm sure there is an 11 in there somewhere ;)

Sam. ;)

It's been a while since I posted in this thread. I was looking for some info that I knew was in this thread and got to this post that was a reply to ekim.
My last words were, I'm sure there is an 11 in there somewhere.
Last year, the bike ran its best time of 12.17 on the open 4 into 4 exhaust system.
At the later meets, the bike was put onto a 4 into 1 system due to noise restrictions and the times dropped a little.
We then took it to the dyno on this pipe and had the carburation set up. The bike suddenly started smoking the back tyre, which lost time.
This weekend we replaced the open pipes and took it to Santa Pod, the UKs premier drag strip with it's super sticky surface.
The bike recorded its fastest time ever with a 12.03 at 112 mph, all this into a stiff headwind, I'm sure there is an 11 in this bike. ;)

Hey Sam, what's the engine spec again? 12.1 doesn't seem particularly fast for a stripped down, race-tuned 836? Did the "pilot" leave the handbrake on, or did you leave a plug lead off? Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D
