Anzio Annie
« on: April 06, 2007, 05:42:47 AM »
Annie kept our GI s pinned down for months on the beach at Anzio, Italy.
Large railroad gun could fire one ton round 40 miles.
Those who were there said it sounded like a large noisey boxcar coming in !
Now located at a great outdoor artillery museum in Aberdeen, Md.
They also have the "atomic cannon"--never fired atomically--fortunately.

A one-ton shell?  That's awful.  I can't even imagine what those soldiers had to live through...
