Bike looks killer, LOVE the garden nome. If I were you I would really reconsider leaving the exhaust wrapping like that, I would bet all sorts of crap is going to end up in the little pocket between the pipes. Once you ride it and burn that stuff on it cannot really be redone. Great work on finding that tank, if I hadnt just painted mine I would be tempted to go that route.

Ya, definitely coming along nice.  I've been watching this thread, mostly because of the tank.  Definitely sets it apart from the rest of us.

I only have one suggestion for ya: gold powder coated rims!  That would look awesome.

It is getting so close to being done, but unfortunately I am not going to make my goal deadline  :'(.  I am leaving for Germany in 12 days for work and was hoping to take it on its maiden voyage before i left but that is just not going to happen.  I am gone for 2 months, so it probably wont be finished until August now.  This will probably be the last pic for a while, unless I can find a little time next week to do some work.

I got the bars from speedmotoco.com.  You will have trouble getting all the right side controls on though cause the bars are a little short.  I think I am going to get a small throttle control without switches and relocate the start switch and kill switch to the headlight housing.  Or you could raise the guages.  I dont know, you have options, just wanted to give you the heads up.

Sure thing, here you go.  Nothing real special, but I like it, and it was cheap.  Just two smal L brackets bolted to the exhaust hanger.

That's a great idea!  I always hated the way Kerker mounts their mufflers with that flat bar.  The license plate mount kind of covers up the bad engineering from Kerker.

Interesting...I wonder if its stable during a fast ride, i know you haven't taken your bike out yet but i'm curious to see if it'll stay stable with all the wind hitting it. Can anyone comment?

I think the worse case would be using a longer bracket that stretches to the other side of the plate.  This should add all the back bone it needs.

Thanks ceveland.  Yeah, worse case I that shoudl work.  My leg is in front of it, so wind shouldnt really be hitting it directly.  But we will see, ill let you guys know how it holds up.

  By the way, I dig your 80'-82' Honda GL500 Silverwing Interstate.

My father has the plain jane and has had the Interstate awhile back. Those are really nice touring bikes!

Thanks.  The interstarte is actually my fiancee's mom's bike.  She has a few old hondas.  When I told her I was looking at trying to find an old one to buy.  She gave me the cb550 for FREE for just doing maintance on her other bikes and keeping them up so she didnt have to keep paying the outrageous fees her mechanic charges her.  It was just at the house to change the front brake pads.  It has been nice, 2 months ago I new nothing about motorcycles, but between my build and her bikes I am learning a lot very quickly.

lol, ill see what I can do  :D.  Wanna know something funny.  Actually when my fiancee's mom dropped her interstate off the other day, I took it out for a quick ride when I was done.  THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD EVER RIDEN A MOTORCYCLE  ;D.

Alright, I got the finally go the front brake to fit using a small universal throttle.  Now the start and kill switches need relocated.



I found a start button i really liked today and installed it on the sidecover (a tight squeeze with the battery, but it fit).





And, here is an oversight that sucks.  The stupid high rise style handlebars that came with the bike needed longer throttle, clutch cables, and brake cables.  Now there is all kinds of slack with the clubmans and the bike is un-ridable until I get new cables and this is an expense I didnt account for  :-[.

Yeah you should relocate the ignition. I like your idea on mounting the start button on the side cover and will have to steal it for my build. As far as your cables are concerned, why dont you run them through the middle of the tank before you get the new cables?

I have drag bars on my bike (which arent as low as the clubmans) and have my thottle cables run under the tank and through the forks and although they are still long I can ride. just my 2 centavos

Yeah, I tried that first, the cables are just ridiculously long, these are the handlebars that were on the bike when i got it, you can see how long they needed to be:




and the more I twist and bunch them up the harder it is to twist the throttle.
